Poetry   Format, Artwork, and Inspiration

Format

Some poems are created as three poems in one. For example, the poem The Call Within has three distinct parts, each being a complete poem that is read separately and gives a unique experience. Woven into dream-like imagery, the meaning of the first poem is purposefully obscured. The second poem conveys the philosophical meaning of the first poem in a very condensed manner. The third poem gives a panorama view, revealing the message still in another way.

The best manner in reading this poetic trilogy is to view poem 1, then poem 2, and lastly poem 3. The artwork can also be seen free of words by selecting View Artwork Only.

Artwork

The images are not intended to illustrate the poems. Vera feels that the artwork and poems complement each other, adding a different dimension in meaning to both the visual and verbal forms. Even though the artwork and the poems are complete art works in themselves, together a greater expressive form occurs.

Inspiration

Written in the early 1980's, the following poems sprung from a heart felt-respect of the passing of a great teacher who touched Vera's heart deeply. The poems are the outpouring of gratitude for having encountered a spiritual master that opened her eyes to a new way of seeing her life and the world. From this perspective, the content of the poems speaks of the personal connection with the divinity within or the soul. Visions occurring in meditation and potent dreams holding pertinent messages inspired many of the poems.

At the time these poems were written Vera was not using the computer as an integral part of her artwork. However, she was always interested in combining images and words. Then, around 2001, Vera started to incorporate words into her works of art, as a means of empowering the artistic message. In 2005, artwork was created for the poems.
