Lotus Serenade

In the digital artwork called Lotus Serenade, the flowers can be seemed as lotuses or water lilies. Both of these flowers have their roots in the earthy bottom of a pond or slow moving river. In Hinduism and Buddhism the lotus symbolizes purity because the flower resting on the water is not tainted from the murky environment from which it grows. Other meanings associated with the lotus are truthfulness, goodness, beauty, enlightenment, and good fortune.

In reference to the water lily, the flower is prominent in Egyptian burial art. The early Egyptians noticed that the water lily has the ability to open and close, and thus they used the water lily as a metaphor for the blossoming of a new life for the deceased.

The flowers in the artwork have open and partially closed blossoms. The four flowers appear to be serenading because they are grouped together, much like a choir. The opened blossoms give the appearance of singing, and the partially closed flowers are waiting to respond.
